How hard it is to forget your Karting roots?

With Grosse Ile Grand Prix successfully behind us we are extremely grateful to those who managed to field Karts for the Celebrity race event on Friday night.  As you know by now everyone involved in the event had a great time and will take some time for those fun memories to fade!

One person in particular that volunteered a Kart and a helper help him get it together was Randy Holewski, long time club member, “old school” Karter.  He volunteered a sprint Kart and a helper (Pat Willey) to assist in the assembly and race prep.  For those of you who don’t know Randy real well he has been dealing with a few health issues over the years but continues to make it to the track as well as a few meetings from time to time.

Randy put a Kart together with the help of Pat, dealt with a few mechanical set backs along the way but finally showed up Friday afternoon with a, well, semi finished Kart.  With a few extra parts needed to be installed like the rear sprocket, drive chain, you know, “extras”, the Kart hit the track under the skill full hands the official MKC test driver, “Ace” Wheelie.   The Kart ran all the practices, the heats and finally the main event.  You had to be there to experience for your self the Kart, “two wheeling” around the left hand turns (which were there were many of!) and what some of the non-experienced drivers must have been thinking!  The topping on the cake was seeing Randy wave the green flag for the final event and hearing Randy yell over the head set “Boogity, Boogity, Boogity” as they sprinted past.

You need to really know Randy to understand him, his sense of humor and outlook on life.  He is an amazing Karter and I am very proud and lucky to be one of his long time “old school” friends.   Thanks Randy for all your help and support.
