MKC NewsLetter Special Summer 2008 Edition

WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR

Well I guess you know by now our 2008 club racing season has come to a halt. The Race at Grosse Ile was our one big event for the year. Big plans for Waterford and Grattan were plagued with complications.

Our association with Grattan sort of went by the way side for now. As expected, after they “repaved “ the track the cost went up, while our treasury was going down. Then we couldn’t get a clear date for an event. These two factors alone would have presented a financial disaster for the club. All is not lost; our recent event at Grosse Ile proved we are up to the task when an opportunity arises. Hopefully it won’t be to long before we see alight at the end of the tunnel. . See you at the September meeting. If you want to keep up to date continue to check out our website www.michigankartclub.com Ace is doing a great job. If you want to send some photos or even an article contact him.   Hang in there…

CES AT GRATTAN

Ron Taylor and Bill Kocsis recently went to the CES enduro event at Grattan. Seemed like it would be a good chance to really check out the new surface after old man winter had a chance to work his magic.

Bob had a kart that did not fit a WKA class so couldn’t run Mid-Ohio, Ron tagged along, bringing his enduro just incase he got the urge. Well Ron got the urge and it cost him $200. Of course that was a package deal including Entry, Practice and Pit pass. Guess that price really was necessary cause they only had an estimated total of 143 entries. The biggest classes were 15 and 13 in the two Sprint 125's and 15 in TAG Sr. These classes were part of the 30 to 45 entries that Terry Riggins Great Lakes Pro series brought to the event.

Listed below are some of our club member who where also curious about the new track surface. If your curious, you may want to contact one of these familiar names, you may also want to congratulate them at the same time.

THEN THERE WAS MID-OHIO

I recently talked to Jim Farr about his adventures at the June WKA race at Mid-Ohio. From the sound of things they made out a lot better than Grattan, how about a nice round number of 530 entries. Jim is a board member of Dart Kart now. Seems like they really tested his commitment at this event. Jim helped out in paddock parking and grid line up. These duties took some time away from kart preparation, which resulted in Jim running out of his usual top five finishes. Jim was happy to see 9 entries in the B Stock class. Jim had to settle for a 6th place two spots behind Jim Jr. Junior had it hooked up for the Unlimited 2 race. Jimmy was in the lead, coming up on some back markers.  Jimmy got tangled up with them just long enough for the 2nd place kart to get by him and  had to settle for 2nd. Dave Masser pulled a 5th in the Medium Pipe class and finished in the top ten in PP Can Lite. Karen Farr is back in action, raced PP Can Lite and Medium, got a 7th in each. Chris Hurdzan finished 2nd in 250 Twin-1 and then came back strong on Sunday to win 250 Twin-2 on Sunday, Brad Jackson followed in 2nd.

Some of the MKC/FLATROCK T-BIRD alumni did pretty well too. Ted Steffke took a first in the competitive CIK 125 class. That was on Saturday; Sunday Ted went up to Grattan with his buddy Ray Nabozny. Ray got a 2nd in the G-125 Sprint. Ted had to settle for a 2nd in the CIK-125 class. Bryan Blair, past T-Bird champion took  a 2nd in WKA Shifter1 then backed it up with a 3rd in WKA Shifter 2.  Johnny West was up to par again, first place in 250 Twin-1. Then John and his archrival Mike Soh battled it out in USSK F/F FINAL-1 (what ever that is). Johnny won that one also.

I saw Lake Speeds name listed as 3rd in the Spec 125-Tag race. That couldn’t be the same Lake Speed that raced with us in C-Open at Road Atlanta, way back when?

Well that should bring you up to date for now. Check out the new news at www.michigankartclub.com
