General Vintage Kart Class Rules

1.ADMINISTRATION - These rules are administered by the MICHIGAN KART CLUB
Please contact the www.michigankartclub.com with any questions, corrections
or proposals.
2.) CHASSIS - Design must be 1980 or older.
a. No body work except vintage-style Nassau panels and Margay Concept nose
b. Floor pans must be within the main frame rails only
c. Bumpers on all karts and nerf bars on sprints and single-tank enduros must meet current WKA and safety specifications.
d. Axles must be stock diameter . no upgrades allowed.
3.) BRAKES - Upgrades are allowed and strongly recommended.
a.) One six inch hydraulic disc brake is the minimum allowed on Vintage USA karts.
b.) Vintage Limited, Vintage Twin USA and Vintage Euro karts are required to have two separate hydraulic braking circuits and a means to prevent complete failure if one circuit fails. If rear brakes only are used, there must be a minimum of two six inch discs or one 7.125 inch vented disc, two master cylinders and two brake calipers.
c.) All karts with foreign motor(s) over 110cc are required to have two separate braking systems, one operating on the front wheels and one on the rear axle. A means to prevent complete failure if one system fails is required. Multi-foreign-engine karts are required to have a minimum of one 7.125 inch vented disc or two 7" solid discs on the rear axle.
4.) CLUTCH - Any drum-type engine clutch or Horstman 4 spring DXL is allowed. Any dry drum-type axle clutch is allowed, i.e. Bystrom, Hegar, Hartman, Proline, Tripp.
Kart/driver weighing over 490 lbs. may use a Horstman axle clutch or Burco dry clutch.
5.) TECH - Engines represented as stock are expected to have stock exhaust port size and height, reed cages, and manifolds as noted. Carburetor bore, exhaust ports, and fuel can be checked as required.The appropriate WKA tech manuals should be used.
6.) RACE LENGTH - All races will be 20 minutes or less, unless otherwise specified by the Race Director, to a maximum of 30 minutes.
7.) CLASS IDENTIFICATION - All karts must carry a rear number plate with class identification.

8.) EQUIPMENT WAIVER - Waivers for drivers and specific non-conforming equipment may be granted by the Michigan Kart Club.
9.) ENGINES - General
a. 1978 Design cut-off date
b. No case-fed foreign reed-valve engines are permitted unless granted a specific exemption
c. Ignition upgrades are allowed on stock and stock-appearing USA engines in the form of electronic modules to replace the breaker points and self contained electronic ignitions to replace the stock coil without machine work. Foreign engines may be modified to use Motoplat ignition in place of points.
10.) FUEL - All classes are restricted to gas and oil only, with the exception of the Vintage Limited class and open single engines in the Vintage Euro and Vintage Twin USA classes, which may use Methanol and oil. NO ADDITIVES other than oil are allowed.
11.) OVERBORE - Oversize pistons are allowed in all classes to the following limits to allow salvaging cylinders bored to the limit.

135cc rotary-valve foreign engines may be bored to a 145 cc displacement

West Bend 820 engines cannot be bored, but replacement cylinders are available

West Bend new-manufacture . Copperhead. blocks ,and manifolds will be
considered stock, and may be used in open classes

Other engines will be considered on an individual basis
